About Me

I am Mr. Keeya Francis, the Principal of Kaliro Technical Institute. My passion for technical education and renewable energy has driven me to seek opportunities that enhance skill development for both students and instructors. Through collaborations and hands-on training, I aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, ensuring that the youth are well-equipped for the job market.

My Journey with SENDEA

My relationship with SENDEA began in 2023 when Kaliro Technical Institute participated in the Renewable Energy Exhibition during Olwekobaano, an event organized by Busoga YAIFE at the former Kaliro PTC. Among the many exhibitors was SENDEA, and through our engagement, we established a partnership that led to the signing of an MOU in 2024 for freelance solar training for the youth.

As a result of this partnership, Kaliro Technical Institute has successfully conducted two cohorts of freelance solar energy training funded by SENDEA. The collaboration has also equipped our institution with vital tools and equipment for our solar lab, significantly improving the quality of our training. Many youths who previously had limited skills in solar energy can now confidently install and maintain solar systems, reducing the risk of hazardous work and increasing their employability. Additionally, our instructors have gained confidence in their ability to train and deliver quality instruction.

In December 2024, SENDEA organized a BIOGAS training at Lillian Imperial Royale Hotel in Kamuli District, which I had the privilege to attend. This training provided me with valuable skills in biogas design, construction, and installation, broadening my vision for renewable energy solutions.

Career Aspirations

With the skills and exposure gained from SENDEA, I am now inspired to establish a company that specializes in the construction of biogas digesters. Additionally, as the Principal of Kaliro Technical Institute, I am committed to introducing biogas construction training at the institute, ensuring that our students gain expertise in this field. I look forward to strengthening our partnership with SENDEA to make this initiative a reality.

Advice to Participants

I encourage young people and fellow educators to take advantage of training opportunities in renewable energy. The skills gained not only enhance employability but also contribute to sustainable energy solutions in our communities. Continuous learning and partnerships with organizations like SENDEA are key to transforming technical education and creating job opportunities. Stay committed, embrace innovation, and always strive for excellence.
