About Me
I am Nakandi Kasifa, a 22-year-old student from Namisindwa District, Mbale. I am currently pursuing a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering at Makerere University Jinja Campus. SENDEA Academy has played a crucial role in shaping my journey and helping me reach where I am today.
My Journey with SENDEA
After completing my Senior Four exams during the COVID-19 lockdown, my parents were deeply concerned about my future. Many girls my age had dropped out of school due to early pregnancies, but my fate took a different turn when Mr. Innocent from St. Joseph Vocational Training Center introduced us to SENDEA.
Recognizing this opportunity, my father enrolled me in a two-week solar systems training at St. Joseph Vocational Training Center in Kamuli. This initial experience ignited my passion for electrical engineering. SENDEA then extended my training for an additional month and later supported me through a two-year Diploma in Industrial Training (DIT). Their continued guidance and investment in my education gave me the foundation I needed to pursue my dream of becoming an engineer.
I am also incredibly grateful to Madam Loy, whose unwavering support and advocacy played a significant role in my journey. She encouraged me to pursue my passion, even when my father initially had different career aspirations for me.
Career Aspirations
Though I am still a student, I am confident that the knowledge, skills, and mentorship I have gained from SENDEA will propel me toward my goals. My ambition is to become a professional electrical engineer and contribute to the renewable energy sector, ensuring more communities gain access to sustainable and affordable electricity.
Giving Back
As someone who has greatly benefited from SENDEA’s support, I look forward to paying it forward by helping other teenagers, especially young girls, to pursue careers in engineering and renewable energy. I believe that with the right guidance and opportunities, more young women can thrive in technical fields.
Advice to Participants
Opportunities may come unexpectedly, but it is up to us to take them seriously. Hard work, dedication, and mentorship can open doors you never imagined. I encourage every young person, especially girls, to believe in themselves, embrace learning, and never be afraid to pursue their dreams.
