Between 13th and 17th October 2025, the Sendea Institute for Energy and Management hosted a transformative Training of Trainers (ToT) program under the theme “Women in Renewable Energy for a Gender-Just Energy Transition.”

The five-day training brought together 19 passionate women from across Uganda who gained both technical and business skills in renewable energy. The program was designed to strengthen participants’ capacity to lead, train others, and promote women’s active participation in Uganda’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Participants engaged in practical sessions on solar technologies, clean energy entrepreneurship, leadership, and management, all aimed at equipping them to take on frontline roles in advancing gender equality and sustainable energy access.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Eng. Loy Florence Kyozaire, CEO of the Sendea Institute for Energy and Management, emphasized the importance of women’s leadership in climate action,

A gender-just energy transition cannot happen without women at the forefront — leading enterprises, influencing decisions, and shaping policy. This program empowers women to become champions of clean energy innovation and sustainability.

Representing the government of Uganda and specifically from Ministry of Water and Environment and serving as Impulsouth’s Focal Person in Uganda, Mr. Ojoke Martin commended the initiative, noting:

This program is a powerful example of how capacity building can drive inclusive climate action. By empowering women with technical and entrepreneurial skills, we are ensuring that Uganda’s transition to renewable energy is not only sustainable but also equitable.

Ms. Mirembe Winnie, a participant shared her personal reflection, saying,

This training has transformed my outlook. I now feel ready to mentor other women, take leadership positions, and contribute to Uganda’s clean energy goals.”

The program, implemented by the Sendea Institute for Energy and Management, was proudly funded by Impulsouth Global Cooperation for Climate Action, Avina Fundación, UNU-ViE, and IDRC–CRDI Canada. Together, these partners are supporting a new generation of women leaders committed to driving a sustainable and gender-just energy transition across Uganda and beyond.
